Cloudlands

Cloudlands, one of the rare musicals to perform at South Coast Repertory, makes its world premiere this week—but this isn't your typical comedic sing-song romp. Written by two renowned playwrights, the award-winning and “one to watch” Adam Gwon, and the award-winning and nonstop theater machine Octavio Solis, this team effort shares the story of a girl uncovering a mess of family secrets while on a quest to investigate her mother's affair. But here's the kicker: South Coast Rep warns that “playgoers should know that there are dark edges in this complex work, which will not be suitable for young children,” plus that Cloudlands contains “serious adult situations and profanity.” The Sound of Music it ain't, so put on your Big Girl Pants and go check it out.

Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: April 15. Continues through May 6, 2012
