The Tony and Emmy-winning theatrical event known as Blast comes to town this month and threatens to blow the rafters off the Cerritos Center with an army of trumpets, flugelhorns, mellophones, baritone horns, tubas, French horns, trombones and a host of percussion instruments. Consisting of 35 musical and visual performers, Blast is hailed as art derived from the showmanship of outdoor pageantry—which means, yes, band camp! It’s a full-on drum corps that welcomes in a few didgeridoos, synthesizers and a unicycle all in the name of marchy, color-guardy takes on jazz, rock, and techno pop, so polish up your batons and sabres and be prepared for a rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody” that’s sure to rock your high step.
