Bellydance Superstars

Bellydance Superstars might sound like an odd name—realistically, most people can’t name one famous belly dancer who's not named Mata Hari, let alone a whole crew that would comprise the Bellydance Superstars. But the name does suggest a level of prestige for the international touring company, started in 2003 by IRS Records (the original home of REM) founder Miles Copeland. Yep, he’s also the brother of Stewart Copeland, drummer for the Police—a band Miles once managed. Copeland gradually became more interested in Middle Eastern culture and music, leading to the creation of the bellydance troupe, whose current tour is titled “Bombay Bellywood.” (Please, take all the time you need to digest that pun.)
