Everyone wins when much-loved local institution Alex’s Bar turns 11! Alex Hernandez calls in the big shots each January, and this time, he has Memphis’ Lucero, breaking from their tour with Social Distortion (otherwise sold out locally), to do the kind of bar show they excel at, along with Steve Soto and his Twisted Hearts. Lucero are perfect for this kind of celebratory night, with a recent album that tries a bit of everything from first-golden-era Stax to Jawbreaker to even the Boss, and there’ll certainly be a surge of drink orders in the minutes before they hit their first note. Soto’s Twisted Hearts are a great match, with a rock-and-soul sound that matches Billy Joe Shaver or David Allan Coe to Paul Westerberg and Johnny Thunders. Like a man once said, beer here!
