Album Attack: Neutral Milk Hotel

Long Beach’s Jesse Wilder knows quite a bit about taking a song apart and putting it back together. Besides his own band, ForceField ON, he’s also right the front man for stalwart local cover bands Mr. Mister Miyagi—the ’80s resurrected!—and Mr. Mister Mustard, the alternate-world Beatles cover band. He’s even in Spiders From Bars, covering (of course) classic Bowie. Now he’s bringing a little of the All Tomorrow’s Parties vibe to the Prospector by helping to get together all-star local super-groups to cover classic albums. First up is Neutral Milk Hotel’s In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, as interpreted by Wilder and adept dudes from Soft Hands and Greater California, too. Thrill in person to that first triumphant line: “When you were young . . .”
