No, today is not the day that Marty McFly traveled to the future from 1985. He always travels in 30-year increments: 1955, 1985, 2015. Except when he goes back to 1885, but those are two entirely different movies. The film that started this time travel fanaticism, director Robert Zemeckis’ 1985 blockbuster, Back to the Future, has lost little steam over the years as its moved into cult status, still remaining a solidly clever flick and serving as proof that Gen-Xer films really were fun prior to the porn-gore-apocalyptic tales of today (although even the BTTF script was rejected by many studios at the time for not being sexual enough). Still, back then, it was entirely possible to root for Michael J. Fox’s short, skinny hero, a guy who used his brain instead of brawn to win the day—yet still wasn’t a nerd. Go see Marty invent the skateboard and Chuck Berry’s dance again on the big screen, and pine, as usual, for your own nuclear-retrofitted DeLorean.
