Discerning folk love experiencing the greatness of iconic dead people, and while most choose old film or TV footage, there’s always that slippery slope of live theater in which a performer attempts to resurrect someone so familiar to so many. It helps if the actor is also famous (Kathleen Turner as Tallulah Bankhead, Kate Mulgrew as Katherine Hepburn—both hits), but it’s not essential. Frank Ferrante manages to slip into the Marx ‘stache and tails effortlessly—in fact, what makes his Groucho even more enjoyable is that he creates new standup, channeling the brain of Groucho rather than just rehashing his one-liners. Just remember to duck.
