For some, as the author stated, I can see that it's a status symbol thing. For me, I'm a man that happens to be attracted to women. I don't see race, or status, when looking at a woman. What I do see, or rather "feel", are levels of attraction.
If you are looking at a person (male or female) as a trophy, then you are in it for the wrong reasons. I've dated White girls, Asian girls, Black girls, Latina girls, Middle Eastern girls... and none of them were a "status" symbol. There just happened to be a mutual attraction.
While the majority of the girls I've dated were white, the author hit the nail on the head. You tend to date who you are around. If you are in college, work, etc. and you happen to find someone you have a mutual attraction with, then that is who you are going to date. You aren't specifically looking to "conquer" someone from a specific race, you are looking for a good match.
