Zoe

Fox Pomona

Mexican band Zoe’s just-out new album Programaton is less a return to form than a refinement of form. In the five years since their last full-power full-length, they explored remixes, acoustic versions and some impressive collaborations, scoring a slot performing at Coachella and even winning a Latin Grammy. But after all that, Programaton is the true successor to 2008’s well-respected Reptilectric. Reinforced again by producer Phil Vinall, Programaton offers an especially considered and concentrated version of the gently cosmic alt-pop that Zoe’s become famous for, mixing in influences from MGMT to Medicine (on “Sedantes”) to add subtle and unexpected resonance to songs that are already ready to conquer the radio. It’s been a long time, but with Programaton, Zoe shows just how much they were really working on.
