Rush the Vote

DEAR EXENE: Now that we're in the home stretch of the presidential election, we're starting to see Barack Obama and Mitt Romney make last-ditch efforts to rope in minority votes, women and "independent voters" with rhetoric, PR stunts and late-coming legislation that is supposed to stick in our minds in the coming weeks as we prepare to hit the ballot box. Personally, I try to make my decision as soon as possible after a presidential campaign starts and try to avoid all of the ramped-up political theater that ensues on TV's pundit shows. Ultimately, the last-minute campaigning tends to make me trust both candidate less. Do you ever get frustrated by the PR maneuvering and media coverage at this point in the presidential race? Do you pay extra-close attention to it, or do you make up your mind early and back away from it as I tend to do?

DEAR ELLA: I don't believe much of what the mainstream media says these days. I don't have a TV, and I never watch. I get my info from primary sources and alternative—mostly Internet—media. I base my decisions on how to vote on a few things: honesty, compassion, intelligence, vision, responsibility. I still think the Constitution and Bill of Rights are extremely important. Given that criteria, I am voting for Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate.
