18th Annual E Hula Mau

International City Theater

The Hawaiian Islands come to Long Beach once again for the 18th Annual E Hula Mau festival and competition. Sure, it's not Maui but there are palm trees and ocean breezes—and this weekend only, there's also hula dancing, a lei contest (hee hee), Hawaiian craft workshops, ukulele music and exotic island food. The main attraction of the festival, however, is the hula competition, where grass-skirted ladies shake those hips like there's no tomorrow—and the Wahine Soloist winner is crowned Miss E Hula Mau. No one can afford a Hawaiian vacation right now—this is as close as most of us can get.
