With some amateur rappers, you can count on a few clichés at their concert: a not-so-subtle line about allegedly being a gangbanger; terrible metaphors referencing either sex or drugs (anything with candy) and mannerisms copying Tupac or Eminem. It’s hard to find original MCs anymore. But tonight, come see a rapper who is a staple in the discussion of hip-hop’s history. Fat Joe, CEO of the Terror Squad, heads to Santa Ana to spit fire from his hits and new tracks. So “Lean Back” and think about how Fat Joe has cemented his name into our cultural knowledge. He collaborated with the late and great Big Punisher; he was nominated for two Grammies, and he sells out arenas even in Russia. Don’t miss this concert if you want to hear an East Coast rapper tear the roof off a building on the West Coast.
