There’s a nice little tradition of dropping bands into the Lab, but this summer the SOBECA Summer Sounds Series is going for broke. The weekend’s kickoff event pairs two stages with 14 local musicians, including OCMA award-winner and Haggard-ian alt-country singer Billy Kernkamp, Chase Johnson’s Open Air Stereo, adorablecore band The Ultimate Bearhug, The Voice alums Orlando Napier and Connie Lim, Oldboy’s Brother C and Sister J and KROQ-spotted alt-pop band (and OCW favorites) Honeypie. (Plus many more, of course!) While SOBECA has further shows set up, this is by far the most colossal and the one with the most mass appeal—and probably the best possible fit for the upscale boho environs of the Lab.
