Why Do Mexican Men Love Their Mothers So Much?

[¡Ask a Mexican!] And why can't Americans learn Spanish?

BUY TACO USA! Gentle cabrones, my much-promised Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America has finally hit bookstores! Place your order with your favorite local bookstore, your finer online retailers, your craftier piratas, but place it. My libro editor has already promised to deport me from the publishing industry if we don't sell enough copies!

DEAR MEXICAN: I'm getting sick and tired of all these dirty, stupid Mexicans running around. The first part is easy: As Mr. Dix says in David Copperfield when asked what to do with David, "Why, bathe him." The second part could be just as easy: Pay them to learn English. There is no damn crime in knowing two languages. If they are kids brought here illegally by their parents, pay the parents to learn English, too. And don't ever, ever tell me there's no money. I HATE MEXICANS EXCEPT FOR THE GIRLS!

Wrote My Letter Via Snail Mail

DEAR GABACHO: And as Dickens wrote in Martin Chuzzlewit, "What is exaggeration to one class of minds and perceptions is plain truth to another." I agree it's no damn crime to know two languages, so please tell your gaba raza it's okay to learn Spanish—shit, Mexicans learned English long ago!

DEAR MEXICAN: Why are Mexican men so attached to their mommies? My boyfriend is an only child, and his mom is loca for him. When he goes out to dinner with his parents, she never has anything to say. But if I am around, she will talk to him forever. I tried to be friends with her, but she looks like she just wants to have a civil relationship with me, not a "mother-daughter" relationship. He isn't crazy in love with his mom—he has stopped speaking to her for 10 days because of su novia and had arguments with her because of things she did against me in the past, but he is still kind of . . . blind. How can I take him away from her? Somebody told me that food will. I already know how to make three Mexican dishes, and he loved them! What else can I do besides cook and have sex (which he enjoys a lot!)?

Confused Nuera

DEAR DAUGHTER-IN-LAW CONFUNDIDA: It's not so much a Mexican thing as it is a Catholic culture cosa. One of my favorite cross-cultural moments happened in The Godfather 2, in which the young Vito Corleone (as played by Robert DeNiro) saw an opera in Little Italy in which the protagonist, upon learning about the death of his saintly mother, proceeded to sing that he was going to kill his . . . was it his wife? Lover? Don't have my Netflix right now. Anyhoo, Catholic culture teaches the male worship of moms and the dismissal of all other woman as inadequate—it's the whole Madonna/whore complex, and it's a cycle that not even the best panocha on Earth can break. And as the eldest son of a wonderful mami, I say let this benevolent tyranny reign FOREVER.

why in hell would you want a guy thats so into his mommy anyhow? It seems to me you havent experienced this relationship long enough to realize you deserve better than what this mexican and his mommy can give you...just realize that his fat mexican mother will always come first and that if you want a place in his life it will have to be second best. Mexican women brain wash their children from early on that they need them and only them and that other women are whores. The second the child gets an incling of independance she sets him straight, whats interesting is that later in life she will make him feel like useless and will expect him to take care of HER, so as his wife(if you marry) become prepared for not only putting up with her but also someday you will be the sole caretaker of this women , as in mexican culture you stay in relationships no matter how codependant or unhealthy. i hope this helps

Una mas cerveza por favor... when a gabacho say those words, they believe they speak Spanish, when a Mexican says, Hello Sir, How may I help you? Americans think that's a given, Mexicans memorize phrases to get by...

There is a double standard in perception when it comes to language proficiency.

More news from Aztlan:

U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said all but one of the 23 members of the Nortenos gang arrested are first- or second-generation U.S. citizens. He said they preyed on illegal immigrants who were vulnerable and unlikely to seek police protection, using violence and threats to create a climate of fear, defend the gang's reputation and territory and promote its drug trafficking activities.

"The indictment alleges members of the Nortenos preyed on Guatemalan immigrants who work in the beef packing plants in Dodge City," Grissom said. "It is well known among the Nortenos that many of the Guatemalan workers do not use banks and try to avoid contact with law enforcement officers. They are smaller in stature and they are unlikely to be armed."

Gustavo, I must disagree with you. The worst "mental disease" in México is "mamitis", according to my Mexicana esposa bella, who is a graduate psychologist. Not only is it destructive, it feeds the second worst, "machismo", according to her. Modern, EDUCATED Mexican MOTHERS are trying to break this outdated, destructive circular thinking, and I, for one, see hope on the horizon. It certainly hasn't infected our four kids (two of whom are adults now).

Confused nuera, the best thing you can do is remain respectful to your suegra and, for certain, don't perpetuate this mental illness with YOUR niños (or niñas). Yes, mamitis can be spread to las niñas also. DON'T!

MOTION TO INTERVENE as PLAINTIFF-INTERVENOR andVERIFIED COMPLAINT-IN-INTERVENTIONNOW COMES, Scott Huminski ("Huminski"), and pursuant to F.R.Civ.P. 24(a), 24(b) moves to intervene in the above-captioned case and complains, swears and deposes, under oath, as follows:1.The above-captioned case involves subject matter that the named Defendants have engaged in a long pattern of Constitutional Rights violations against various persons in Maricopa County, Arizona. Specifically relevant to this intervention are the claims of First Amendment retaliation as set Forth in the Complaint.2.Huminski has been a resident of Maricopa County for over two years.3.Huminski has been subjected to Constitutional Rights violations foisted upon him by the named Defendants, specifically First Amendment retaliation.4.Huminski has been declared a citizen-reporter and "legitimate gadfly" by the United States Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Huminski v. Corsones, 396 F.3d 53 (2d Cir. 2005).5.Huminski has received threats of retaliation by means of arrest and criminal prosecution from the Defendants for his reporting crimes to the Defendants.6.The reporting of crime to a law enforcement agency is speech protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. The speech (crime reports) concerned a person who is self-described as having control and supervision powers with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. The complaints of criminal conduct were/are critical of a judicial and law enforcement insider, Justin M. Nelson, heightening the speech to core First Amendment status. Attached hereto as Exhibit "A" is a true and correct copy of an email from Justin Nelson describing his relationship with Sheriff Arpaio.7.Attached hereto as Exhibits "B" and Exhibit "C" are true and correct copies of emails sent to Huminski by the Defendants threatening retaliatory arrest and prosecution via the County Attorney in response to Huminski's crime reporting to law enforcement.8.Subsequent to receipt of Exhibits "B" and "C", County Attorney personnel assaulted Huminski in retaliation for his delivery of court papers containing speech critical of the government. Surprise, Arizona has threatened to arrest Huminski if he engages in litigation against the self-admitted top friend and crony of Sheriff Arpaio, Justin Michael Nelson. Gilbert, Arizona has threatened to arrest Huminski if he engages in litigation against Bruce Hume of the Norwalk, Connecticut Police Department. 9.First Amendment retaliation has been adopted as a custom, practice, policy and procedure under the color of law by the Defendants and at several other law enforcement entities in Maricopa County including the Gilbert Police and Surprise Police whereby these agencies and Defendants use the threat of arrest and prosecution as a retaliation to First Amendment expression proximately causing the chilling of expression. The retaliatory conduct is county-wide and has been adopted by multiple police entities.10.The Defendants have threatened retaliation through use of the Arizona Harassment Statute 13 A.R.S. § 2921. The statute is constitutionally infirm as it criminalizes speech protected under the First Amendment. The statute has been used as a law enforcement tool of oppression.11.This action is brought under the First Amendment and pursuant to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 (Bivens action) analogous to the 42 U.S.C. § 14141 claim set forth in the Complaint. @Nuera,Your example and Sr. Hackett's are examples of extrapolation from single examples. I can't talk to Irish Catholic culture but his single example is not enough to convince me that there is a big difference between Irish and American Catholic cultures in this aspect. He may well be right, I don't know. It sounds like your hubbie's family is toward the other end of he spectrum (I believe to be not all that rare, not arguing that).

@Snail-mail,the people I know who don't speak English well are completely aware how this affects them. My version of Spanish (and no fear of sounding "stupid" in trying to use it) has benefitted me in many ways over the years. at 64 years old I'm still practicing and trying to improve. (Well, it doesn't hurt to try, does it?)

I might agree it's a Latin thing but I don't know about Catholic. My Irish-American father was Catholic and his mother NEVER doted on him whereas my Mexican-American mother thought I walked on water. Hard not to be close to your mom when she would do anything for you. One day while I was walking home from school I was jumped by 5 guys who weren't too crazy about the half-breed. Just as one of them jumped on my back from behind me my mom pulled up in her car, standing all of 5 feet tall, picked the guy up and threw him almost 10 feet through the air. You don't mess with a Mexican mom!

Despite machismo, mexican culture is mainly matriarchal. Besides, who can call the abuelos when bail money is needed? Not your primo malcriado!

If outsiders do not enhance the country’s “economic or national interests” or are “not found to be physically or mentally healthy,” they are not welcome. Neither are those who show “contempt against national sovereignty or security.” They must not be economic burdens on society and must have clean criminal histories. Those seeking to obtain Mexican citizenship must show a birth certificate, provide a bank statement proving economic independence, pass an exam and prove they can provide their own health care.

Another nice treat from the Mexican government. Thanks Michelle.

All of these provisions are enshrined in Mexico’s Ley General de Población (General Law of the Population) and were spotlighted in a 2006 research paper published by the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Security Policy. There’s been no public clamor for “comprehensive immigration reform” in Mexico, however, because pro-illegal alien speech by outsiders is prohibited.

Read this, interesting how the Mexicans treat their immigrants. The hypocrisy of the do nothings is mind boggling. Written by Michelle Malkin, a writer that far exceeds the collective ability of the OC Weekly yet is blasted because she does that one thing the OC does not like..she tells the truth about the do nothings.

What is with these random posts lately? They're apparently put up by some sort of bot. Were they intended to include a link to some rip-off off-shore URL tha gets blocked in the postings?

My guess is that since he appears to have been "Toned Down" to be less controversial his posts dont generate the interest and outrage they useto? Probly a bot generated by him to show some "false interest in what he has to say".

Why would he do that? He's the editor, all he would need to do is post.
