Not to be confused with the trancey Japancakes or the punky Japandroids—or even JapanCupid, where you can meet “1000s of Japanese women for serious and long-term relationships and marriage”—Japanther is at once none of these things and all of these things, for Japanther is an art project. A rockin’ art project that consists of two guys, a set of drums and a guitar, in fact, and one that plays odd little gigs with surprisingly good songs and sometimes appears alongside giant puppets and synchronized swimmers. Whatever the props, they’re always keeping it real; after all, what kind of guys write the lyric “I love you no matter where you’ve spent the night”? Guys you need to know, that’s who.
