Coachella secret side-shows at the Glass House are one of the best things about being within local distance to Pomona, and seeing the Pixies and Jesus and Mary Chain a few feet from your face is the kind of thing that helps you continue gracefully getting out of bed every morning. UK band Arctic Monkeys are doing their own Coachella detour here, but they’ve left the hyper hooky days of “Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor” far behind. Their new Suck It And See LP has a title riffing between the Stones and the Velvet Underground, and those are the kind of big influences they’re putting through the Monkey machine now—this is less post-punk than bent pop made by people who’ve been exploring records that came before punk. Plenty of adorable choruses, though.
