We slightly misconstrued the offer, okay? “Wanna preview the Festival of Wales?” got us all excited thinking about a week in Cardiff downing pints, watching rugby and leering at comely, Celtic dancing ladies. Instead, it was something, literally, on our home turf. Turns out the final weekend of Dana Point’s biggest annual bash (100,000 visitors last year) has just about everything but rugby: boat tours and really big fish; sailing and kayaking; art shows and exhibits; nature walks; kids’ activities; classic cars; clam chowder cook-off and BBQ; live jazz and rock, and one American military presence we’re actually in favor of—the 5th Marine Regiment Beer Garden. “Got bombed by the Marines” suddenly takes on a whole new meaning.
