Ticketmaster Customers to Receive Credits

[Mental Notes] Plus, Ritmo Machine welcomes you with a free download!

If you purchased event tickets through Ticketmaster between Oct. 21, 1999, and Oct. 19, 2011, you've probably already received an email informing you of the corporation's proposed settlement in a long-standing class-action suit.

Originally filed eight years ago by two men in Los Angeles, Curt Schlesinger, et al. v. Ticketmaster claimed customers were being charged excessive and untruthful order-processing and UPS "expedited delivery" fees. As opposed to a straight-up refund, the proposed settlement states that customers will be eligible for— wait for it—a $1.50 credit for up to 17 tickets bought between the lawsuit's specified dates on future Ticketmaster purchases. Those who were charged the expedited-delivery fee will see a $5 credit applied the next time they use the service.

A spokesperson for Ticketmaster described the proposed settlement to CNNMoney as "fair, reasonable and adequate as a compromise." However, the nonprofit Center for Class Action Fairness calls it "appalling," saying the "coupon settlement . . . would be illegal in federal court."

A California court will hold a final hearing for approval of the settlement May 29, 2012. From a Dec. 6 Heard Mentality post.

RITMO MACHINE WELCOMES YOU WITH A FREE DOWNLOAD!
Cypress Hill
's Eric Bobo and Chilean DJ/producer Latin Bitman have joined musical forces. The seed of the Ritmo Machine collaboration was sown earlier this year when Cypress Hill performed in South America as part of the Lollapalooza tour. After connecting, Bitman and Bobo recorded an album together in Argentina, Welcome to the Ritmo Machine, a Latin funk meets hip-hop sonic revelation released last month.

Bobo, son of the late Latin-jazz legend Willie Bobo, lends his live percussion talents to Bitman's production powers. The beats floss DJ scratches, old-school hip-hop drums, progressive electronica, Latin rhythms, funky guitar riffs and bass lines. The concoction is a unifying glimpse of the future guaranteed to be infectious from Santiago de Chile all the way to New York City.

Welcome to the Ritmo Machine also features a number of high-caliber artists. Sick Jacken of Psycho Realm and Grammy-nominated Chilean rapper Ana Tijoux share rhyming responsibilities on "La Calle." Also included are Cypress Hill's Sen-Dog, Jurassic 5's Chali 2na, Money Mark and Mix Master Mike of the Beasties.

Ritmo Machine's "Maestro" is the funky Afrobeat that sparked the creative direction of the dynamic duo, and courtesy of Nacional Records, all our loyal Heard Mentality readers can download the song for free at our music blog! From a Dec. 2 post.

This settlement is a joke. You get ripped off and you get to deal again with people who ripped you off. So fair
