America's come a long way in ensuring the safety of children during its history. Huckleberry Finn isn’t wandering the streets of Newport Beach, asking for change from couples buying frozen yogurt; young boys aren’t singing for hay pennies in the streets, and groups of kids aren’t fighting for pocket change. But back in the day, things were very different. From 1856-1930, orphaned children were plucked from the streets of New York City and transported via train to the Great Plains. It's believed that 200,000 kids were relocated during the time—and Laguna Playhouse’s new play, Looking For Home, examines this tragic stain on the history of the American unconscious by telling one girl’s struggle. The story follows 11-year-old Annie Hoffman and her siblings as they settle in Kansas—it’s a tale of courage and the discovery of what makes a home a home.
