We like Austra. Not so much for their four on the floor electronic beats, or their gothic discotheque aesthetic. These things don't make the band unique. Rather, it's singer Katie Stelmanis's voice that revs our engine. It's a wonky, yet beautiful guttural wail that falls somewhere between Bjork, Tori Amos and the austere detachment of Jessica Von Rabbit. They'll be coming to Detroit as part of their first North American headlining tour.
