THRICE IS NICE
I definitely grew up with [Thrice] and evolved as they did [Lilledeshan Bose's "Family Guys," Sept. 16]. This feels like the last hurrah, unfortunately, and from what I've heard through the grapevine here in Irvine, Major/Minor is it. But what a beautiful note to end on. The record is stunning. Thank you for everything, Thrice, as well as OC Weekly for supporting these guys.

DAN? THE MAN
Dan [O'Mahony] is one of the smartest guys I have ever met [Taylor Hamby's Locals Only, "Answer and Questions," Sept. 16]. Charismatic, funny and insanely perceptive. Has he made mistakes—hell, yeah, but that's what happens when you take risks and live according to your own path. And the dude can take a punch like no other and return fire on notice.

PEEVED ABOUT PIE
Pie-ology sucks [Gustavo Arellano's Hole In the Wall, "Pizza Possibilities," Sept. 16]. It has cheap pizzas. Papa Murphy's is way better. Pie-ology's owner gives out free Ding Dongs to girls only. When asked about it, he says he only gives them away sometimes, and then made me wait for the wrong pizza. Non-professional, paper-thin pizza.

GAME OVER, MAN
Game sucks because he blew off his Orange County fans and didn't show for the Playground Festival [Brooklyne Gipson's "Game, Set, Match," Sept. 2]. What a flake! People actually paid money and bought tickets, and then the guy who's supposed to be a headliner doesn't even show? That's frickin' weak!

This article misrepresents and demeans the Christian church in Orange County [Michelle Woo's "The Misfit," Sept. 9]. I do not believe this author is qualified to make statements such as "In Orange County, where the Wal-Mart-ized megachurch and its subsequent prosperity gospel is one of our most influential exports." The prosperity gospel is actually mostly seen within the Pentecostal and charismatic movement in the South, not a very prevalent denomination in Orange County.
The article does nothing to look at why young people are leaving the church. The reason young people are leaving is the church has become lukewarm, moving away from a message that truthfully proclaims what John the Baptist did—"Repent and be saved!"—and instead tries to be seeker-friendly and entertaining. Honestly, people can find better entertainment at a movie or concert. The job of the church, of true religion, is to care for the widows and the fatherless. The way to salvation is repentance.

Dave Gibbons has done wonderful things to make Christianity mainstream to non-believers. Hats off to him. His vision is right on track. Give the church to those who need it. I would like Newsong Irvine to grow bigger, but that is a selfish vision. Cater to the poor and the sinners who don't know better. Continue with Newsong LA, Thailand, Design All-Stars and Burrito project. You are making a difference where it counts.

Dave Gibbons, continue to pursue what God has intended for you to do! God bless you and your ministry! It is highly impacting many. Your inspiring messages for all, those who are weak and strong, thirsty for Christ, have changed lives! Don't ever let anyone pull you down or even question your ministry because, in the end, God is your judge, and I know He is in favor of you and all that you do!

THE BEATING CASE GOES ON
"A brutal killing for a sack lunch"? It's more like a chance to beat a child molester and get an adrenalin rush at the same time [Nick Schou's "All Chapluk-ed Up," Aug. 26]. Everyone knows these guys are fair game. I'm betting the Orange County Sheriff's Department is going to pay out big on this one.

In Lilledeshan Bose's Sept. 16 cover story, "Family Guys," Nick Bogardus' tenure as Thrice manager was given incorrectly. Bogardus worked with Thrice from 2000 until he got married in January 2008.
