More About

Maria, lead character from the 1957 American musical classic, West Side Story, truly has a problem for the ages. She falls in love with her enemy Tony at a neighborhood dance—but why two rival gangs are hanging out at the same social function remains a mystery. He’s a Jet, the cross-town rival to Maria’s Puerto Rican Sharks gang, and as you can imagine, nothing good comes of the relationship except pain and grief. Regardless of the tragic undertones of this Romeo and Juliet adaptation, West Side Story continues to play strongly with audiences, captivating generation after generation—and will continue to do so in memory of playwright Arthur Laurents, the man behind the story, who passed away just last May at the age of 93.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 6. Continues through Sept. 18, 2011
