Even in the world of standup, it's hard to come by performers who are as hilariously irreverent and politically incorrect as actor/comedian John Witherspoon. If you're familiar with the misadventures of Craig and Smokey in the 1995 cult film Friday, you'll recognize Witherspoon for his role as Ice Cube's eccentric, hapless, dog-catching dad; and don't forget his roles as Pops on The Wayans Brothers and as Grandad on The Boondocks. The Detroit-bred Witherspoon uses a blend of physical humor, personal anecdotes and silly sound effects to disarm his audience before hitting it over the head with serious topics such as war, politics and the civil-rights movement. His uniquely animated delivery combined with relatable, worldly content makes for a stimulating, side-splitting evening.
