More than 250,000 people attended last year’s Strawberry Festival in Garden Grove, which is expected to be just as popular this year. With the theme of “Celebrating the Sweet Sounds of Comedy,” there are plenty of celebrity appearances—including Rico Rodriguez from Modern Family, Kate Linder from The Young and the Restless and Christina Robinson from Dexter—to kick off the festival’s 53rd year. Activities include a Tiny Tots King and Queen contest, as well as a cutting ceremony for the world’s largest strawberry shortcake. The city’s mayor and Miss Garden Grove will do the honors; cake is free to everyone in attendance. End the night by watching the Ooey Gooey Pie-in-the-Face contest—and hopefully avoid any flying pie remnants. Memorial Day sees plenty of food and carnival rides, plus a red-head roundup contest!
