Harvey Milk Day

Downtown Santa Ana French Plaza

Harvey Milk: politician, activist, icon. As California’s first openly gay elected official, he made strides for the LGBT equality movement before his tragic assassination in 1978, when both Milk and San Francisco Mayor George Moscone were murdered by Dan White, a former colleague on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. In honor of Milk’s birthday, the Orange County Equality Coalition celebrates his life and accomplishments with a party, dancing and, of course, cake. The outdoor festival is sponsored by a handful of local businesses and organizations and includes performances by DJ Michelle Mannisto, Jennifer Corday and the Cougars, Men Alive, Ricky Rebel, and many more.
Fri., May 20, 5 p.m., 2011
