When a small-town girl falls for an aspiring musician in 1987 Hollywood, its a story of love, glam metal, big hair and bad fashion. Rock of Ages hits Costa Mesa this week on its first national tour, bringing along American Idol's Constantine Maroulis. Rock of Ages seemed predestined for Broadway mega-success with major players working it, including director Hanggi (Bare, Pussycat Dolls On the Sunset Strip), choreographer Kelly Devine (Jersey Boys), and arrangements and orchestrations by Ethan Popp (Tarza, Mamma Mia). This jukebox musical, which debuted in April 2009, has already been turned into a feature film, slated for release later this year.
