The Champanties specialize in a soulful brand of pop rock reminiscent of girl bands from the '60s such as the Ronettes. Would you expect anything less from a band featuring northern-soul aficionado Frankie Alvaro on keys? Alvaro is the driving force behind the monthly Secret Affair, which pops on the first Friday of each month at Alex’s Bar and features rare gems from the northern soul pop and mod genres. And though Alvaro has a cute little pseudo-'fro, you'll notice it’s the bevy of leggy mistresses belting out tunes with a set of pipes that would make a Hammond organ feel inadequate.
