Nearly a century before tomes such as Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus and cinematic gems such as The Truth about Cats and Dogs, Mark Twain was tackling the battle of the sexes in ways rarely approached since. Between 1893 and 1905, Twain published two books on the universe’s storied original inhabitants: first came Adam’s diary, then Eve’s. Now, thanks to the efforts of actor/director David Birney, the world is blessed with Mark Twain’s The Diaries of Adam and Eve. Adapted in 2003, this play features observations told through the eyes of Adam such as “This new creature with the long hair is a good deal in the way. . . . I wish it would stay with the other animals.” Meow! Take your wife, and enjoy the silence on the ride home.
