LA-based band El Ten Eleven sound like a studio full of musicians, each strumming, plucking and pounding away—but the people behind the music are just two: the innovative duo of Kristian Dunn and Tim Fogarty. The secret here is looping, which Dunn does live with his double-neck bass/guitar or fretless bass over a jumble of countless pedals to a fascinating effect. Think Explosions In the Sky or Ratatat on a pennies production budget. El Ten Eleven create hypnotic layer after layer, building a rich landscape of ambient post-rock. The pair are currently on a winter tour, supporting their recently released fourth album, It’s Still Like a Secret (on their Fake Record Label), which concludes this week at Detroit Bar.
