Nostalgia may be the most powerful force in the universe. How else to explain the possibility of spending the first day of 2011 with A Flock of Seagulls? The band haven’t released a studio album in more than 15 years and are best known (some might say only known) for “I Ran,” a song from 1982 that continues to get new life, appearing in several video games and on soundtracks when there’s a need for an iconic 1980s tune. In a world in which bands such as MGMT keep new wave synthpop alive and relevant, there’s more to A Flock of Seagulls than punch lines about their hairstyles.
