Once there was this band the Red Onions, and they shamed all other bands before them. They were four tightly wound guys from Gardena, and they got to the same place the Funhouse Stooges actually got to by using what the Funhouse Stooges actually used—hard-ass funk, blues, soul, an innate feral hunger for overwhelming sensation and a wah pedal that put the “tar” in guitar. In the earliest years of this millennium, all cowered before the power of the Red Onions. Now they are back just to remind people what it was like before the Internet salt-petered entire genres and generations. Iggy and Paul Onion both would ask: Do you feel all right? You will if you’ve got anything left.
