With a holiday as endemically saccharine as Christmas, its inevitable people subvert that cheery paradigm any way they can (see: A Christmas Story, Bad Santa). Jeff Goodes The Eight: Reindeer Monologues takes that notion and runs with it, a stage production in which Santas trusty mammal assistants kvetch about what really goes on at the North Pole, andbrace yourselfits nowhere near as wholesome as you might have heard. Consider it the antidote to all those local productions of The Nutcracker. Its been a seasonal tradition at the Chance Theater for seven years, and theyre employing a rotating cast of performers, so the show will change with each performance.
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, 8 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 11 p.m.; Mondays, 8 p.m. Starts: Nov. 30. Continues through Dec. 20, 2010
