With a holiday as endemically saccharine as Christmas, it’s inevitable people subvert that cheery paradigm any way they can (see: A Christmas Story, Bad Santa). Jeff Goode’s The Eight: Reindeer Monologues takes that notion and runs with it, a stage production in which Santa’s trusty mammal assistants kvetch about what really goes on at the North Pole, and—brace yourself—it’s nowhere near as wholesome as you might have heard. Consider it the antidote to all those local productions of The Nutcracker. It’s been a seasonal tradition at the Chance Theater for seven years, and they’re employing a rotating cast of performers, so the show will change with each performance.
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, 8 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 11 p.m.; Mondays, 8 p.m. Starts: Nov. 30. Continues through Dec. 20, 2010
