Of all the bands paid tribute to, the Greatful Dead are among the most mirrored—alongside, say, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles and Led Zeppelin. Formed in Chicago more than a decade ago, Dark Star Orchestra have made a name for themselves playing the Dead’s tunes—they’ve even managed to obtain a curious following of Deadhead-replica groupies. The cover band’s performances faithfully respect the original, right down to the last detail: songs are played exactly in order as the concert being portrayed (the original Greatful Dead concert date and venue is announced at the end of the show). Even though Jerry Garcia passed away just two years before Dark Star Orchestra formed, we’re sure he’d totally dig their tie-die-hard devotion.
