The Legendary Pink Dots

Detroit Bar

Edward Ka-Spel is a machine like the world has never seen—about 150 albums between his Legendary Pink Dots and his own solo work and other projects; even the mighty Mark E. Smith must tremble before a total like that. The Dots don’t quite do it all—no Mekons-style sidetrips into country—but they do a lot, and they do it well. Inside artfully detailed hundreds of songs are beautiful connections to and reflections of similarly legendary outré-nauts such as Can, Van der Graaf Generator, This Heat and Faust, as well as enough of what potential investors like to hear described as a “pop sensibility.” They fit as finely in a club as they do in a space capsule.
