The Day of the Dead is just about here, and in case youre curious about the story behind the sugar skulls, Long Beach Playhouse is presenting a lecture by former MOLAA director Gregorio Lukewho once said his definition of a good day is any day he can spark that moment of understanding between Latin America and the United States. Toward that end, hes been busylecturing at the Smithsonian, Harvard, the Library of Congress and morebut this night he settles in for a comprehensive presentation on the Day of the Dead, which hell trace back to pre-Columbian times. Along with the lecture, the Playhouse will present a collection of altars designed by local artists.
