Montreal golden boys Plants and Animals’ first release, Parc Avenue , was a hybrid of Arcade Fire-esque harmonies and crisp, powerful instrumentals that seemed to transport listeners to some kind of mystical forest. Their new release, La La Land , is less . . . let’s say, inspired. The trio have ventured into darker territory, with distorted sounds and dialed-down vocals, leaving old fans scratching their heads. The show at the House of Blues will no doubt feature selections from the band’s entire catalog—but regardless of their recent transition, these guys are worth spending some quality time with.
