The genres listed on folk musician Fence’s Myspace page include pop, shoegaze and grim. His personal quote reads “forever bummed.” So this is a disgruntled folk singer—what will they come up with next? Here’s what you need to know: Fences, aka Chris Mansfield is an up-and-coming singer-songwriter out of Seattle. His sound consists of acoustic, guitar-centered strummers filled out with über simple keyboards and modest but dynamic drumming. The songs are dark and moody but surprisingly sweet. If we had to draw comparisons, we’d say his voice is an interesting mix of Beck and Conor Oberst. Check him out at the Prospector this week.
