Weird and Wonderful: Celebrating 75 Years of Collecting at Bowers

Bowers

No way we’re ever gonna believe an OC exhibit labeled “75 years of weird and wonderful” has nothing to do with Irvine Company chairman Don Bren. Sure, Bowers Museum claims it’s opened its storerooms to let us see the 130,000 objects from around the world that it’s collected since 1936, some never displayed before—shrunken heads from the Amazon, the bear trap that snared the last grizzly in the county, an Egyptian mummy mask with a creepy surprise, a Peruvian headhunter’s tunic, a “female ancestor figure” from Sulawesi, plus way more oddball artifacts than we can mention. But we know different. More acreage than Europe, more money than a Mexican coke king, a 30-years-younger wife? Trump that. Don, you are The Donald.
Tuesdays-Sundays, 10 a.m. Starts: Sept. 21. Continues through Nov. 30, 2010
