Dubbed “the undisputed First Lady of the musical comedy stage,” Ethel Merman was one of the most vibrant personalities ever to appear on the Great White Way. The first performer to introduce standards such as “Anything Goes,” “You’re the Top,” and her theme, “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” among many others, Merman’s belting mezzo-soprano and exceptional comedic timing propelled her to the very heights of fame and adoration. From her grand stage performance in 1934’s Anything Goes to her hilarious final film appearance in Airplane!, Merman was a fascinating force to be adored and reckoned with—so don’t miss Rita McKenzie’s award-winning recreation of this legend, and relive the heyday of one Broadway’s brightest stars.
Wednesdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Sept. 8. Continues through Sept. 19, 2010
