When it comes to dredging the electronically infused sounds of KROQ’s flashback lunch, New York’s Cold Cave have that shit on lock. Here’s what you need to know about them: Dark and moody synth-pop, reminiscent of a handful of post punk bands such as Joy Division, or New Order mixed with the ambient sonic tinkering of Edgar Froese or Brian Eno. They can get a little swirly with a sound that’s as buzzy and fuzzy as sonic cotton, but they also have songs with serious hookage. And unlike the aforementioned bands, Cold Cave will be appearing at this year’s FYF Fest. But before they set foot on the hallowed Downtown Los Angeles stage to celebrate the hipster life, they’ll be playing the humble confines of Costa Mesa’s Detroit Bar. So see them in Orange County, because by the end of the next day, they might be legends.
