Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead

Hunger Artists Theatre

Always the bridesmaids and never the bride, the bit part players of our favorite productions rarely get their chance to shine in the spotlight. In Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, Hamlet’s boyhood friends, get manipulated by the King in an attempt to end their princely friend’s life early. But smarty-pants Hamlet outwits and insults his buddies so that in the end they, rather than he, are murdered. Now Hunger Artists Theater Company allows us a chance to relive the tragic tale of Prince Hamlet exacting his revenge on evil uncle Claudius from the perspective of the duped background duo in Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead. As this clueless twosome tries to make heads or tails of the drama they find themselves immersed in, the action appears nonsensically comical and devilishly refreshing.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 7 p.m. Starts: Aug. 27. Continues through Sept. 19, 2010
