Weezer and Antoine Dodson . . .

[Mental Notes] . . .Top our list of Reasons We Love the Internet

EVERYBODY’S TALKING ABOUT . . .
If you’ve been anywhere in public the past week, you’d know that Antoine Dodson’s “Bed Intruder Remix” has been everyone’s brainworm. After the “Bed Intruder Song, featuring the Gregory Brothers and Kelly Dodson” (yes, that is its official title) hit No. 3 on the iTunes R&B/soul chart and spawned a gazillion covers on YouTube, it has turned Dodson into a bona-fide celebrity. Dodson now has an official site, a Twitter account, a YouTube account and an official Zazzle store for his merch. The “Bed Intruder” covers include a ginger playing a Japanese lute, i.e., the tsugaru shamisen; an accordion cover; a beatboxer; various gospel covers; semi-naked bears singing blues covers; and even a 150-person orchestra version. Since its release, the song has reached No. 35 on the overall iTunes charts and No. 3 on the iTunes R&B charts, with the “Bed Intruder Song” hitting 11,000 downloads and the YouTube video more than 9 million views. Run and tell that, homeboy! From an Aug. 10Heard Mentalityblog post.

DUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!
Last week, Weezer announced that Jorge Garcia (a.k.a. Hurley from Lost) was going to be on the cover of their eighth album. “I’m excited to know that the people in the music stores that I used to work at will soon be opening boxes full of my smiling face,” Garcia said when he first saw the album cover—which is, in fact, just a close-up of his face. The idea came to front man Rivers Cuomo after meeting the very charming Garcia backstage at George Lopez last May. His top five favorite songs by the band: “Buddy Holly” (“The first Weezer song I heard and really dug and still the best use of ‘wee-ooos’ in any song to date”), “(If You’re Wondering if I Want You To) I Want You To” (“The video is hilarious, and the hook hooked me”), “Pink Triangle” (“A great story song, and it always puts a smile on my face”), “Beverly Hills” (“Hearing a crowd of people singing along to this at their live show made me fall in love with it”) and “Hash Pipe” (“The guitar riff is like Peter Gunn times a thousand!”).
