Formerly local and still locally sympathetic pop-garage band Young The Giant used to be the Jakes, but new names make new friends and new songs make big connections between class of ‘00 mandatory party jammers the Strokes and class of ‘10 party jammer Vampire Weekend—with a little bit of Arcade Fire, too, or whatever you call it when you try and find the three common chords between Pavement and U2.
