This week, the hurricane known as Otep comes crashing through Orange County to the Galaxy Theatre. As Ozzfest favorites (they were invited to play even as an unsigned band. Sharon happened to catch a glimpse of their set and the rest was history), they may be pure heavy metal but traces of poetry and spoken word run deep throughout their catalogue. But don’t mistake pretty blonde singer Otep Shamaya as the dainty type—she’s been called “a force of pure rage,” and don’t even think about pulling that “show us yer boobs!” bullshit, her fans are protective, fiercely loyal, and likely to punch you in the face.
