One year before she went down in cult history as the sexier half of Harold and Maude, and two years after shed won the Oscar for being the neighbor you love to hate in Rosemarys Baby, 74-year-old Ruth Gordon starred as the feisty, senile mother of two inept adult sons in this darkest of comedies from twisty-brained director Carl Reiner. Fraught with taboos that can now only exist in films from the 70s, Wheres Poppa? pokes a wicked finger at sibling rivalry, racial and ethnic stereotypes, old peopleand, most of all, the adult children who hate them. So, momentarily take off your PC poncho and revisit the other side of the 70sno touchy-feely tree-hugging allowed.
