Paying tribute to one of the greatest guitarists of all time, some Django Reinhardt fans have taken it upon themselves to create their own Hot Club gypsy jazz bands (in reference to his famous Quintet of the Hot Club of France). Such clubs can be found all over the world —from Norway to Tokyo to New York—but the Hot Club of San Francisco add some West Coast sunshine to the classic genre. Playing upbeat, cheery melodies at breakneck speed, the five-piece ensemble treat the Carpenter Center audience to a little Django-inspired jam session.
