Green Long Beach! Festival 2010

East Village Arts District

It’s “green” the verb as much as “green” the adjective at the Green Long Beach! Festival, where locals come together for environmentally responsible action in pursuit of environmentally responsible results. This year’s fest combines local vendors and workshops (like the how-to-make-the-world-a-better-place classes taught at Catalyst on First St.) with music from a happily diverse set of performers. Urban Underground award-nominated MC Shania D’s lo-fi productions and agile delivery put her somewhere between Gonjasufi and MIA, the Sun Ray Gravitones dish out ’68 style garage rock (and do a valiant Otis Rush cover) and hip-pop artist Speratic brings a polished, modern style to time-honored melodic fundamentals. Plenty of bike parking and easy bus and train access, too, so you can have a completely conscience-clearing day of carbon-footprint-minimizing fun.
