Tony Orlando "Lets Salute America"

La Mirada Theatre

In 1974, Tony Orlando and Dawn were the darlings of nighttime TV variety shows, popping out “Candida,” “Knock Three Times,” and their signature #1 hit, “Tie a Yellow Ribbon ‘Round the Old Oak Tree.” They were funny, sexy, and groovy ’70s all the way. Orlando is now bringing back that chart-topper for an oddly-themed new show that salutes America—adding in some yankee doodling, Neil Diamond and Ray Charles—and calling it “a show that stands up for our country.” Curious, of course, because “Ribbon” is based on an old folk tale about a convict who asks his gal to tie one on if she wants him after he’s released from prison. Now there’s a theme!
