Real Women Have Curves

Long Beach Playhouse

Ever noticed how full-figured divas like Aretha Franklin and Paula Deen have a special way of convincing you to do things you wouldn’t otherwise, like, say, drunken karaoke or eating that entire chocolate cake? Just ask Ana, the youngest woman working for a small East LA sewing factory in Josefina Lopez’s famed play Real Women Have Curves (also the film that introduced us to the adorable America Ferrera). With her family pressuring her to stay in her barrio job, but her dreams and aspirations directing her towards a college education, Ana realizes that her curvy co-workers may have good intentions—but only she can decide which path she will take in life.
