North Shore

Regency South Coast Village

Here’s a blast from the past for all you grommets and hodads. This Wednesday, check out a screening of the camptastic ‘80s surf romp North Shore. It’s the story of a naive young Arizonian named Rick Kane who, after learning to shred a stick in the local wave pool, heads for O’ahu’s North Shore. Once there, he finds it’s not all coconuts and palm trees as the universe itself threatens to wash his sea-battered corpse into a corral cave. Confronted by a colorful pidgin lexicon featuring such epithetical gems as Kook, Barney and Haole, Kane attempts to dodge the slings and arrows of surly locals while tussling with a surf gang known as the Hui for the affections of comely young local girl. Factor in a menagerie of professional surfers from the era including Mark Occhilupo, Laird Hamilton, Derek Ho, and the late Mark Foo and you’ve got some world class big-wave entertainment with a lot of heart.
